Karlovy Vary owes its affluent grandeur to no fewer than 13 hot springs and a warm water river. Add to this its colourful façades and tree-lined hill setting, and it’s easy to see why it’s one of Europe’s most sophisticated spa towns.
The best views are from the Deer Leap and Diana Tower lookouts, both high above the Grandhotel Pupp, a famous 5-star hotel which starred as James Bond’s gambling retreat in ‘Casino Royale’. It also hosts an International Film Festival, but the city is really about the waters, a fact reflected in its English name – Carlsbad.
You can take the waters at the 5 springs under the Mill Colonnade, and the wrought-iron Market Colonnade houses 2 more. The Park Colonnade employs a similarly impressive style to protect 3 springs, while a geyser bursts up in the Hot Spring Colonnade. The Castle Tower overlooks the Castle Colonnade waters, and a thermal pool at Spa Hotel Thermal overlooks the city.
The beautiful churches of Karlovy Vary include the Russian-styled Church of St Peter and St Paul. The Moser Glassworks produce suitably high quality products, and the Jan Becher Museum provides an idea of what to fill them with – local Becherovka bitter.
Accommodation on Booking.com includes luxury hotels, city centre apartments and guest houses near Karlovy Vary Airport.
The city itself is beautiful. Its location at the riverside with historical-looking buildings and hot springs is exceptional. However, what the city has in architecture, it lacks in facilities, especially restaurants. In general, there are only two major types of places where you can eat: beer houses and places serving Italian cuisine. The food in most of these is pretty good, but it is super expensive - two or three times pricier than what is considered normal in the rest of the country. I figure that you are paying extra for being served in the middle of nowhere at the national border, but it just felt too much. I now think of the city as being home to the posh millionaires who couldn't care less about how much they spend on food and other services.

You can make many trips around both with travel agencies and on your own, using the offers of the Karlovy Vary Card, which you can buy on the Internet. Be sure to visit the Becherevka Museum, the tasting in the morning was very useful) The food is very dense, but you can find a Georgian restaurant, sushi and wonderful desserts.
For health - The effect after taking medicinal water does not appear immediately, but it is very effective. Sleep was restored and body pain disappeared very quickly.

I wanted to stay at least 2 nights in the Karlovy Vary because we missed the spa and some historical point including the Goethe house and view point. However, it was great chance to taste the water of emperor and the original wafer snack.

A beautiful historical city that still has the old times...
A beautiful historical city that still has the old times flair of a spa town favored by aristocracy. A lot to do in terms of wellness and spa activities, plenty of good restaurants and cafes. It is good to read restaurant reviews before visiting and making reservations, good places fill up quick. It is a walkable city, no need to drive. Friendly and helpful information center staff. Recommend visiting the thermal pools and saunas at the Thermal Hotel, Alžbětiny lázně for spa procedures. Worth walking to the Grand Hotel Pupp along side the Teplá river to soak in the atmosphere of the spa city. Worth a two day visit at the minimum.

Karlovy Vary is one of the most beautiful towns I have visited in Europe. It is set in a valley and most of the buildings are late nineteenth century. It was and is an upmarket spa resort.
I ate lunch regularly in a traditional pub. The local beer is wonderful.
It is easy to walk around the town and there are good buses.
I also visited by local bus nearly Loket - an idyllic medieval town.
Both Karlovy Vary (and Loket) and featured in the Bond film Casino Royale - where the poker game takes place.
Hotel Male Versailles is such a hidden gem! We booked this hotel for a spur-of-the-moment trip with our two one-year old sons and our small dog and we were SO impressed. The hotel is beautiful and surrounded by nature and walking paths. The rooms are spacious and extremely clean. The buffet breakfast and the restaurant are both DELICIOUS - we ate lunch and dinner at the restaurant many times. The hotel staff were so friendly and welcoming to our kids & our dog. Highly, highly recommend this hotel for a stay in Karlovy Vary!!!
Very friendly young host, great location. We parked our car for free near the main road uphill and walked down into the Karlovy Vary valley. Most attractions are only 5-15 min away (on foot) from the Madonna Apartments (Diana Tower, Hotel Pupp, pramens, Becherovka museum etc.). The apartment was clean, quiet and spacious. The place is a great deal for three people as most hotels only have double rooms for two... Nice breakfast basket with a selection of food, drinks, coffee etc. I'd definitely stay here again next time.
Beautiful and quiet apartment with extremely comfortable bed and sleeping sofa. Very tasteful, Scandinavian design and good quality materials - massive wood on bed and doors and good quality towels. Excellent location just in the middle of the town with good proximity to public transport and right next yo the best spa resort - Saunia in hotel Thermal. Very good communication with the staff.
Everything was perfect and more. Free parking next to the house. The entire house is decorated in it's own unique style. The breakfast room is like from a fairy tale. The pansion is run by Mrs. Larissa, a wonderful host, extremely helpful. Most memorable accomodation on our trip, and we stayed from motels to 4* hotels with spa centers. Thank you!
Historical place! Perfect location and parking. The hotel really justifies 5 stars, great interiors, the room is clean and spacious, bathroom as well very clean and fresh. The staff is very friendly.
Breakfast is great except for coffee, but in the lobby bar the best coffee ever.
I would choose this hotel for the next time definitely.
Hotel Adria has very good location and close to city center. We liked our stay for one night and room was spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. Parking nearby hotel. Receptionist lady very helpful and professional. This hotel is highly recommendable for family stay or business trip.
The hotel is just a few minutes away from the bus station. Great location - about 5-10 minutes to Thermal and Vřídlo. Restaurants and cafes all around. Friendly staff. Modern hotel with key cards and self-service check in. Clean and spacious room. We will definitely stay again :)
The spa/wellness area was very nice and the staff was very friendly. The breakfast each morning was just what we needed and the hotel itself was very centrally located, easy walking distance to many attractions and restaurants. Would highly recommend staying here.
Nice hotel located in the spa district of Karlovy Vary, very close to all the main attractions. Hotel located in beautiful historical building. The room was spacious and fairly well kept, equipped with a safe and mini-fridge. Friendly staff. Tasty breakfast.
There is not a single thing we did not love. Our trip to Europe we stayed in over 15 hotels and this was by far our favourite. The best beds in Europe! The location is phenomenal and the hotel feel very luxurious. We loved the bath for a spa experience…
